NDT Systems from Magnetic Analysis to be Featured at Dusseldorf Show

Information on MAC’s new Rotomac® 25mm Rotary tester which provides cost effective, on-line inspection for long, continuous surface flaws such as seams and laps in cold heading, spring making and other slow throughput operations, will be available at MAC’s Stand #6/H20 at the Dusseldorf Show. This Rotary identifies flaws prior to forming and cutting and the defect alarm activation is delayed so the piece made from the defective wire is rejected after the cutting operation.  Operating at 1000 RPM, the Rotomac®25RM handles wire, 3mm – 25mm diameter.  Bushings maintain accurate centering of the wire during testing. Test probe adjustments are easily accessible. Typical throughput speeds are up to 12 meters per minute.  The rotary’s highly accurate distance compensation, when using an absolute test probe, permits inspecting excessively out of round product. The MiniMac® model 60/65 single channel eddy current electronics are designed for use with rotary probe operations.

Magnetic Analysis Corp. will also be demonstrating a Minimac® model 50/55 eddy current tester for detecting surface and subsurface defects in ferrous and nonferrous wire, cable and tube at its Stand #6/H20.  The Minimac® is often installed for high speed in-line testing of small diameter drawn wire. It’s filters and digital processors, along with guiding and holding mechanisms, prevent vibration from interfering with the test as well as ensuring smooth progress of the product through the production line. The test detects typical small surface defects such as scratches, cracks and pin holes. MAC’s quality grading software can allow the customer to customize the defect types, each based on a specific threshold gate, specify the maximum number of defects for each grade level, and configure reports that include coil ID, grade, date, time, production line, test instrument, and total defect count for each designated type.

Knowledgeable engineers in the booth will be able to discuss MAC’s complete range of inspection systems for wire, cable and rod. The Rotomac® HS which operates at speeds up to 18,000 RPM, is well suited for spring makers and other wire producers testing product from 2–20mm diameter. Distance compensation, critical for testing ovate wire, is included and for drawn wire, drawing nibs can be adapted for use as bushings for testing marginally straightened wire.  Applications include testing A-286 stainless steel wire and similar low conductivity alloys.

Magnetic Analysis Corp. has been designing and manufacturing NDT instruments and systems since 1928. Today, the company serves wire, rod, bar and tube producers worldwide.
